Gravity Defying Ring
The Effect
The magician holds a broken rubber band with a ring on it at an angle. Without the
magician touching it, the ring climbs up the rubber band.
How It's Done
Get a rubber band and break it. Put a ring around it and hold the ends of the rubber
band taught with your fingers. At one end, leave a few inches of slack, angle the rubber band so that
the end with the slack is lower than the end without slack. The ring should be somewhere near the
bottom of the rubber band at this point. Keeping the rubber band taught, slowly release the slack on the
bottom end. The spectator should not realize you are releasing slack, which is covered by the rest of your hand.
The ring will appear to climb up the rubber band.
