Watch Steel
The Effect
The magician tells a spectator to hold a coin in each hand and close his eyes
to concentrate on teleporting the coins to switch hands. The spectator fails
to teleport the coins, but the magician has removed his watch without his knowledge.
How It's Done
You need to find someone with the correct kind of watch. The easiest watch to remove
is the kind that has the strip go through the metal loop and a metal pin goes in a hole
on the strip (how most belt buckles work).
Whatever trick you try to do is irrelevant, as long as it takes the spectator's mind
away from his wrists allowing you to remove his watch.
Place two different types of coins in the spectator's hands (one in each).
Tell the spectator to close his fists around the coins and put your hands around
the spectator's wrists. For the wrist with the watch, make sure to circle your thumb
and pointer finger around the watch putting pressure on the wrist, this makes the spectator
notice your fingers on his wrist instead of his watch. Tell the spectator to close his eyes as you push his arms
towards his body. As you move the spectators hands, use your thumb to push the watch
strap through the metal loop. Tell the spectator to concentrate on teleporting the coins from
one hand to the other. Keep talking to the spectator and occasionally moving his wrists as you undo
the watch. Once the watch is undone, keep it in place with your thumb and pointer.
As you release the spectator's wrists, pull the watch off using your thumb and pointer finger and quickly
hide the watch (in a close fist or pocket).
